dried rosemary

Fresh rosemary isn't always available, which is exactly why dried rosemary deserves a permanent place in your pantry.

When dried properly, rosemary retains its distinctive aroma and flavour, making it one of the most versatile herbs to cook with. At Himalayan Haat, we harvest rosemary by hand on our forest farm in Uttarakhand, then gently dry and bottle it in small batches.

Whether you're making a quick weekday dinner or brewing a relaxing herbal tea, here are some of our favourite ways to use it.

1. Brew a Simple Rosemary Tea

Probably the most surprising use.

  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 200ml boiling water
  • Steep 5–7 minutes
  • Cover while brewing
  • strain

Optional: Add Honey and Lemon

Best for: after meals or a caffeine-free afternoon drink.

Or blend with other herbs: these are great suggestions.

2. Roast Potatoes

One teaspoon of dried rosemary with olive oil, garlic, salt

The classic.

3. Season Roast Vegetables

Pumpkin

Carrots

Sweet potato

Beetroot

Cauliflower

4. Add to Homemade Bread, Crackers & Focaccia

Mix directly into dough.

Or sprinkle over focaccia with olive oil and sea salt. This wholewheat rosemary cracker recipe is easy and delicious!

5. Flavour Soups

Wonderful in: tomato soup, pumpkin soup, mushroom soup, lentil soup

6. Make Marinades

Olive oil, rosemary, garlic, apple cider vinegar, black pepper

7. Add to Rice & Pilafs

While cooking rice or herb butter rice.An Unexpected level of flavour.

8. Herb Butter

Mix in butter, rosemary, garlic, salt. Store in the fridge.

Fantastic on bread.

9. Infuse Olive Oil

One of my favourites.

Let rosemary sit in olive oil for dressings.

Note: Refrigerate and use promptly if fresh herbs are used; dried herbs are generally preferred for oil infusions.

10. Make Crispy Roasted Chickpeas

Olive oil, rosemary, paprika, salt. All in the air fryer.

Great snack.

Tips for Cooking with Dried Rosemary

✔ Use about one-third the quantity of fresh rosemary.

✔ Add dried rosemary early while cooking so it has time to soften and release flavour.

✔ Crush it lightly between your fingers before adding—it releases the aromatic oils.

✔ Store in an airtight jar away from heat and sunlight.

Why We Love Dried Rosemary

Fresh rosemary is wonderful, but dried rosemary has its own strengths.

It keeps for months, is available year-round, and develops a wonderfully concentrated flavour that works beautifully in slow-cooked dishes, breads and herbal teas.

Because we harvest and dry our rosemary on our Himalayan farm, it travels only a short distance before reaching your kitchen, helping preserve its freshness and aroma.

Try It Yourself

Whether you're brewing a cup of rosemary tea, roasting vegetables, or baking fresh bread, dried rosemary is one of the simplest ways to add more flavour to everyday cooking.
