4 Tips for Choosing the Best Quality Apple Cider Vinegar

How to Choose the Best Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is more than just a kitchen staple — it’s widely used in wellness routines, from supporting digestion to hair and skin care.

But not all ACV is created equal. Here are four key things to look for to ensure you're choosing the best apple cider vinegar:

1. Choose Unfiltered and Unpasteurised: The Mother Matters

When it comes to ACV, a cloudy appearance is a good sign. Look for raw, unfiltered, and unpasteurised apple cider vinegar that contains “the mother” — a natural mix of proteins, enzymes, and beneficial bacteria formed during fermentation.

Avoid clear, highly processed versions, as they may lack these natural components.

2. Check the Apples: Go for Organic or Chemical-Free

The quality of apples directly affects the quality of the vinegar. Choose brands that use organic or pesticide-free apples to avoid unwanted chemical residues.

Apples naturally contain pectin, a fibre that supports gut health, making high-quality ingredients even more important.

3. Look at the Packaging: Glass is Better

ACV is acidic, and over time, plastic packaging may affect its quality. Opt for glass bottles, which help preserve the purity and integrity of the vinegar.

4. Know Your Source: Trust the Producer

With ACV becoming increasingly popular, it’s important to choose brands that are transparent about their sourcing and process.

Small-batch producers, especially those based in apple-growing regions, often focus more on quality and traditional methods.

At Himalayan Haat, our raw apple cider vinegar is made from pesticide-free apples grown on and around our farm.

It is slow-aged in small batches in ceramic pots for 6–8 months, allowing it to naturally develop flavour, depth, and the mother culture.

Choosing the right apple cider vinegar can make a real difference — both in quality and in how you experience its benefits.
