How to Use Lemongrass in Your Daily Life
Lemongrass is one of those herbs that is easy to love once you know what to do with it.
It has a fresh citrus aroma, a clean flavour, and makes even the simplest cup or dish feel more special. At Himalayan Haat, we use it in everyday tea, cooking and herbal routines.
Here are some of our favourite ways to use it.
1. Brew it as a simple tea
This is the easiest and most popular way to use lemongrass.
Add a few strands of dried lemongrass to hot water, cover, and steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain and drink warm, plain or with a little honey.
It makes a lovely cup after meals, in the evening, or whenever you want something fresh and calming.
2. Pair it with other herbs
Lemongrass works beautifully with herbs like peppermint and chamomile, or spices like turmeric and ginger
You can blend it into tea for a fresher flavour or use it with other herbs depending on the kind of cup you want: refreshing, calming, or more aromatic.
3. Add it to soups and broths
Lemongrass is wonderful in light soups, broths and Asian-style dishes.
It gives a citrus lift without overpowering and pairs especially well with ginger, garlic, coconut, and chilli.
4. Use it in curries and stews
If you like cooking with herbs, lemongrass can add a beautiful layer of flavour to curries and slow-cooked dishes.
It works especially well in recipes where you want freshness to balance richness.
5. Make an iced infusion
Lemongrass tea also tastes lovely chilled.
Brew it a little stronger than usual, let it cool, pour over ice, and enjoy as a refreshing herbal drink on warm days.
6. Use it as part of a wind-down ritual
A warm cup of lemongrass tea in the evening can become a simple daily ritual.
It is the kind of herb that feels light, gentle and easy to return to again and again.
7. Combine it with honey or lemon
For a softer or brighter cup, add a little honey or lemon after steeping.
That can help round out the flavour and make the tea feel more comforting.
A Few Tips for Brewing
- Use a small handful of dried lemongrass or a teaspoon or two if cut fine.
- Always cover the cup while steeping to keep the aroma in the tea.
- Steep for 5 to 10 minutes depending on how strong you like it.
- Start light if you are new to lemongrass, then adjust to taste.
Why We Love Using It This Way
Lemongrass is simple, but that is part of its charm.
It fits easily into everyday cooking and tea rituals without needing much else. Whether you drink it after dinner, mix it with other herbs, or use it in your kitchen, it brings a fresh, clean note that never feels too heavy.
